    When Christmas season rolls around, it is always interesting to see the same old games start to pop up and spend their entire yearly advertising budget over the course of one week. Games like Yahtzee, Stratego, Life and Monopoly are all games that are great, but they and games like them have been around for decades. That is why this year it is nice to see a change of pace with the Mindflex Game.

    Instead of worrying about what is going to come up on the die or flipping the wrong card over, the Mindflex Game really does use your head. The game features a headset that looks like it came out of Star Trek that can read the waves of the brain to move the ball around the obstacle course. We know, it sounds crazy, but one quick experience with the game and you will quickly realize how incredible the Mindflex Game really is.

    The game is played on a board that does feature a fan to get the ball elevated, but that is all that it does. By learning the techniques that the instruction manual teaches, your mind will actually start to manipulate the ball around the obstacle course and will have it doing some amazing things.

    This is one of the more expensive games that will be on the shopping list this season, but it could have a lot of benefits. If the user can manage to master the techniques, these mind exercises will surely prove useful later in life. The amount of concentration that it takes to move an object is surely something that will come in handy as an adult. Still don’t believe? Head out to your favorite store and give it a try and when you see that ball moving, run back home and get on the Internet to find the best price.

    • ]]>     It has been a long time since a board game has captured the attention of gamers, but somehow this simple game called The Settlers of Catan has done exactly that. What was the last big board game to garner this much attention? While there have been some pretenders, it probably goes all the way back to Trivial Pursuit for something that has been this fanatical.

    Apparently, this game has been around for some time, but is actually only new to the American Market. By reading the reviews, it is easy to see that it is quickly becoming as popular here as it has been in Europe for well over a decade. While everyone claims that the game is super easy to pick up, becoming a master takes some time.

    At first glance, it appears to be nothing more than a simple board game, but it has many nuances that take some time to pick up. The game is also expandable and this is where it really starts to get tricky. Masters of the game have been playing forever and have likened the game to games like Stratego.

    Like many board games, The Settlers of Catan will take a creative imagination to play. The game takes place on an island that must be developed. The new settlers have to develop their land according to the different environments that are created. Again, it seems simple enough, but there are enough twists and turns to make this truly addicting.

    In this day and age of electronics and toys that can stand up and talk, dance or simulate a pet, it is almost refreshing to see something introduced that really does go back to basics in every way, including the theme of the game. For a true change of pace and a game that can literally bring the entire family together for one night a week, give The Settlers of Catan a try. Their faces may not light up when it is put under the Christmas Tree like it will for Wii Sports Resort, but you just may be amazed at what gets played with more after the newness wears off.
